The last time that I went over six hours in an endurance event was only last March of this year. That was at a 50k trail run Which I feel I could have been better trained for. It was fun and awesome and hard. Tomorrow will be even more fun and awesome and harder! But, I am better prepared.
This week has been interesting. Did one loop on the bike course on Sunday with coach Mary then the tapering began. I still can't believe I made it to this week finally. I get to take it easy! I have had in my head for a long time to not cheat myself with the workout. To push hard. An elite athlete friend of mine had said this long time ago and it has stuck with me. So this week of tapering done not feel right. I keep thinking of my legs. They need rest. Then on race day they will feel the burn and take off.
Had a good week at work. A couple of my co-workers are excited for me. I hope that I have inspired them even just a little. The big disappointment though is my boss. He's so self involved that he could careless about the activities of his employees outside of the office. So trying to let it go that he didn't even acknowledge my upcoming race at all this week.
Swam on Monday. Worked on drills, sighting and breathing. Good swim
Tuesday took off.
Wednesday was going to do 4x800 on track but both school tracks in town were being used. Nut! Had to do it on the street in my community. It went well but I went out a little too fast and my left hamstring started to get sore that night. I love my foam roller. It has been my best friend this week. Thanks to Jay at CrossFit All In for emphasizing it at his box which has pushed me to use it more during my training.
Thursday after work I rode my bike on the Centennial Trail at a very easy pace. Easier than I have ever done in a long time. Especially these past 16 weeks! I have not gone that slow on my bike since I was a teen! My legs were feeling the run from the night before and I was worried for them. It was such a fun ride. I'm the kind of person who has to say hi, smile or wave at people. This one older guy with a beard, also on his bike, gave me the thumbs up and said God bless to me. Now I'm sure he said that to everyone but it really picked me up. I rode an hour. Even though I ate something prior started to feel a little woozy on the way back to my car. That stressed to me the proper nutrition that I need for Sunday!
My coach so much was worried that I would not be eating enough carbs this week since I eat Paleo and don't do pasta or bread. I've been eating potatoes everyday and even a little bread. Lots of fruit and veggies also as well as eggs and meat. I love meat! I can never be a vegetarian.
Friday is a complete rest day. Alfredo and I ended up running some errands. We got everything that we both wanted to get done and got to the Lake Stevens high school for the orientation and expo right after it first opened. Before going there though we went to Blue Fire Fitness in Snohomish and picked up my racing tank! Too cool! I have a top with a team name! I feel so honored to be wearing it. I hope to make coach proud!
I felt excited to go to the Ironman expo. This is a international event! Ken, who is also my coaches client, was also there then. I seemed more nervous than I am, and he's done more triathlons than I have and even a full Ironman. In a way made me feel better knowing that I am handling this well.
I bought a couple shirts and a sticker for my car. I love showing off my accomplishments!
Sharon was there. We had done a training ride together and she is a great swimmer. This is her first 70.3 also. She seems nervous too.
My husband found people who he knows there. So funny the connections people have from the past.
There was a guy from Mexico checking in and was being video'd by his daughter and his wife was taking pictures. Very exciting for them.
Had to take Tylenol PM to sleep last night.
Today is an easy and busy day. Getting housework done. Getting my gear together and taking my bike to transition. I'll test out the water when I'm there also.
For breakfast I had a coconut bar and coffee. Later had my eggs with yams and leftover zucchini and coconut milk. Lot of water thru ought the day.
My neighbors down the street are having a barbecue and invited us. I really don't want to go but I should at least stop by for a few minutes. I have to get to bed early!
My husband is leaving me alone today so I can do what I need to do. Also I get a little crank before and event. Sorry dear.
Got a new tire and tube on my front wheel. Just left my bike in transition area and I'm just a little ways down from Sharon! She was there and she walked me to the swim exit and showed me the bush to use as a directional signal to find my bike.
There was lots of energy there. Nervous energy and also bad energy. After one more hug from Sharon I went to the swim start and took a look and a picture. I said to my self as I looked out at the buoys "Don't even think about it. Go back to the car". And I got out of there.
Going to bed at 8:00 tonight. I have things to do in the morning. I'm going to so rock it!
