Went for my first road bike ride today! I was so excited and nervous about riding on road versus trail that an hour in I finally remembered that I was carrying water. Sundays are the best days to ride out here due to the lower volume of traffic. What a great course to use. Rolling hills and a few hills that I needed to stand up on. Oh..my..thighs are going to hurt on Monday. It was fun though. I will use this course often. I really can't wait for them to post the Lake Stevens Ironman bike course on line. Come on guys!
I was scheduled to do a 2:30 ride. At about halfway I thought it would be a good idea to eat something. I had brought a gel, a Power Bar and a Larabar. I stopped and ate the Larabar. (Note to self. Put a toothpick in my bento box. The nuts get stuck in my teeth and drives my tongue nuts.) I need to figure out when to eat on the bike. I have nutrition figured out with running but on the bike it's different.
When I got home my husband made me walk down our street and back. As I'm typing this, four hours off the bike, I can tell that I used muscles that I have not used in this way for a while.
I had better go and ice.
Next race: Bloomsday run 12k in Spokane next Sunday. Goal time=sub 58 minutes. I want to get into the Second Seeding start area. My brother will be pissed but I have goals. He wants to run as a "family". Just me and him. He should have thought of that three years ago when I ran my very first road race at Bloomsday and I had to be in the starting group behind his and he could have came back to me and ran with me but didn't. Then the next year I still was not as fast as him and at mile 2 he left me. That was two years ago and I am faster now. hehehehe
He'll understand later.
