Changing gears

A nearly three and a half hour bike ride in hills Friday the day after a one and half hour run, fartlek run yesterday and an hour 15 min bike sprint sure makes for very tired legs!       They are really not too sore as much as just tired.
I had lots of practice with gear changing. I'm learning when to use what gear. Most of the time I'm going by feel. What feels good going up and going down and what feels great just doing a straight away.
I'm trying for three hours on the bike at the Ironman. With these hills it's going to be hard.  Unlike swimming which is more technique verses power I feel I may do well on the bike. I'm not even half way through my training and I'm having good energy about the biking 56 miles. Now if that energy would transfer to the water!
Yesterday I met a lady at the pool who is also training for the 70.3 Ironman. She is someone that my coach has mentioned a couple months ago and that may be a good partner for the bike rides. She loves swimming and said we should swim together. (A ever so slight glimmer of hope shone then.) Perhaps we can benefit each other for the race. The farthest she has ever run was 12 miles. I've done 6 marathons and 17 half's.
One last thing.  I thought I would be more terrified riding on the road with no shoulder out here in the sticks. Yes, those rednecks don't move over much and I really dislike the logging trucks.
