Yes, I know. I'm way behind on blog. Still working on marathon.
Today I did my longest swim that I have ever done! I still can't believe how far I swam! Coach Mary gave my training buddy Sharon and I the same weekend workout. Today it consisted of a ten mile run and a long endurance workout. The run went great. We ran on the course for the half Ironman. Beautiful day running through town and by the lake. The rowing clubs were out and I got to say hi to a bunch of old rowing buddies! The water looked so smooth and perfect for rowing with a little fog on top of the water with the Cascade mountains in the background. I would say I miss it but I love running more. I didn't get that "Oh, I wish I was rowing" feeling. I had great company also.
Next we were off to swim. Only one lane available for laps at the high school. At one point there were five of us in the lane. Everyone was cordial and polite. The swim team had two lanes which helped me with my open water training. Boy, they are fast and they can make some waves.
Aerobics and then swim lessons were going on in the first two lanes and our one lap lane was in the middle of it all. Sharon is a speedy one. She kept me feeling like I was on a important mission to get this done. I started with a full bottle of water with GU electrolytes. Helped a lot.
Our work out looked like this:
400 warm up
4 x 400 @ easy pace
4 x 100 @ fast pace
2 x 200 @ easy pace
4 x 100 @ fast pace
800 @ easy pace (decided to use the pull bouy)
300 very easy cool down
160 laps total = 4000 yards = over 2 miles!
Woohoo!
Of course Sharon was done and gone when I finished. She's so good.
Today was the first day that I realized that I AM a swimmer! I can do this!
The reason for the long swim is because I'm a little behind on my triathlon training. The marathon kinda cut into my start of the 16 week training plan before Lake Stevens 70.3. This is where I feel I am an athlete and I can push for more. I don't think I'm going to be doing much CrossFit though. Sad. Hard to fit it in. I'll so some at home. Glad I have my kettle bell. I am starting the muscle up practice again too.
40 mile bike ride in the morning. I have a 50 mile next weekend with a half marathon the next day. We'll see how that goes. Sure would be good to have a PR but after a long bike?
I'll get to that marathon post soon, more for me.
