My week started out great. Did a swim on Monday. Tuesday a four mile treadmill run which my legs felt heavy and still recovering from the race on Sunday. Trainer class Tuesday night for an hour with a 20 min run of the bike. The lilacs right after the rain smelled so good! Wednesday was an off day. Driving home after work though got tougher the closer I got home. I got so sleepy. I just thought it was from the race and training and needed to go to bed early. I made dinner and went to bed at about 9ish. By 10:30 I was in the bathroom throwing up. That was my night! Alfredo and I had the flu! I slept on and off Thursday and was out for the night by 5pm and didn't wake up till past five the next morning. I felt a little better on Friday and got a little house work done with one nap. Friday night I probably slept four hours! I just could not get to sleep. My chihuahua's made the bed so comfortable or else I would have gotten up and watched TV.
I was determined though to get some training done since I had lost two days already. This is the most rest that my legs have had in a long time. I swam for over two hours on Saturday and did 184 laps, 4550 meters! I felt great. I made sure I ate high protein and calorie smoothies and had electrolyte water with me too. But them my left elbow on the inside started to get sore towards the end. Over use.
My tummy started hurting the rest of the day on Saturday. Then you can guess where that led me! I had tummy issues the rest of the night before bed. I took a couple sleeping pills this time and slept most of the night. I was determined to get a good bike ride on Sunday. Coach had written for me do to a long bike, 60 miles. I wanted to ride the 70.3 Lake Stevens Ironman course and work on those hills.
Morning came and it was cold. I waited till after 8 am for it to warm up a bit and for my tummy to settle down still. All layered up I headed out. Everything on me was fairly not cold except for my fingers. I had bought toe covers a couple weeks ago. Thank goodness, even though the bike shop owner had to dig them out of the attic because it is Spring! I stopped half an hour in and warmed my fingers on my tummy. That made them feel lots better. Then getting ready to take off and up one of the steeper hills I didn't get enough momentum and over I fell. A couple scraps but ok. Road rash! So glad no one was around! One down.
I have put off going on the 70.3 course because of the new clip in shoes and the road can get busy. I just had to buck up and do it. I took the ride easy. My energy still was not there and the hills I took slow. Just kept in my mind that I'm coming off being sick and even just getting out there is good.
An hour later my left butt cheek started hurting. I thought at first it was from the fall. I was coming up to an intersection where I could go left and continue on the course or go right and head home. I really wanted to get the big down hills out of the way for my peace of mind so I went left and thought I could gut out the pain in my butt. I made it down the fun and scary part of the course and onto Centenial Trail but the pain in my rear kept getting worse. at this point I was only at the halfway mark for my planned ride and I kept debating on whether to continue or call my husband for a pick me up. I did some stretching and thought maybe I can go on. I rode another couple miles on the trail then pulled over and another trailhead and called Alfredo. No answer. Now I started getting mad. At him for not having his phone ready in case something happened to me. At myself for not going right when I should have. And at the My body for not cooperating. I thought if my husband does not answer I would just ride on Hwy 92, which is flat, and just go slow till I get closer to town. But, just riding on flat and slow still bugged my butt and the pain started shooting down my leg. I pulled over and left Alfredo a crying and desperate sounding message. He called me back a few minutes later. He was on the lawnmower. "Pick me up!" I road back to the last trailhead. As I was about to cross a road, a couple cars had just let pedestrians by. I did not want the cars to wait anymore and slowly coasted. They sat there. I motioned for the cars to go. Nothing. I came to a coasting stop and over I went! Several people around and cars staring at me! Crap! #2 out of the way. I made it to the trailhead and to a park bench till Alfredo arrived. "I fell down" I told him and showed him my little road rash. He laughed and gave me a kiss. We drove home. Only 30 miles of a 60 mile ride done and it took me 4 hours!
Let this be my worse week of the season, please. Now I can laugh at myself. I have not seen a bike fall over with its rider. I bet I looked pretty funny. I swear that second one I bounced on the ground.
