Hi there!
Even though my time was the same as the half I did up at Lake Samish in January I felt much better with the negative split. I have never had a negative split in a race! Finally! I told my running buddy, Sharon B. that I need to "run my own race" and I will run with her till I think I shouldn't. At about 2+ miles in I told Sharon that we were at a 9:00 pace. A little too fast of pace for her and she told me to just go and she's a big girl. I'm so sorry Sharon. I actually was trying to slow myself down because I was going faster than even I wanted. I was going to run with her till the turn around and see how I felt after that.
After I left her I turned on my music and kept to the beat of Pandora Lady Gaga. When I planned to get to the turn around and then pick it up a bit. Last time I was here it didn't feel this good. I looked at my watch and saw it read 8:15ish on the way back. I wondered how long I could hold this pace. Too the end!!! Felt great. Nutrition spot on. At about a mile to finish I told myself that if I PR I will buy myself those shoes I have had my eye on. Nice light ones for "minimal" running and CrossFit.
No PR. That just tells me that I should just wait for when I need to buy light running shoes that can endure more mileage.
Time was 1:50:38 by my Garmin. PR= 1:48:31 almost two years ago. I really want to get under 1:45someday and call it good. Yea, right!
This was Sharon's first real half marathon! The only other one she did was the Lake Stevens Half Ironman. She beat that half marathon time by over 15 minutes! Good job Sharon!
I found a posting on Facebook from USA Triathlon, an article from CNN of Chrissie Wellington telling of how she used mind over body. The link to the article is to the right. I love her attitude! She is a good roll model. I think I will use some of her suggestions as I prepare for my racing season.
It's been over two weeks since I've had a drink. Feeling pretty good. Feeling strong too.
Next race is this Saturday at La Conner and the Smelt Run. I'll be doing the 10k. I hope for a PR! My fastest is from The Dawg Dash in 2009 at 48:52. Woof woof.
Five weeks and four days till my marathon. And, same number of weeks till my triathlon training really begins.
Bought clip-less pedals and shoes for my bike. Also got aerobars. Can't wait for the weather to get better so I can try them outside and not on the trainer. Better practice using them and getting in and out of them indoors though. I really don't want to fall with my bike. I already have a bruised knee from missing a box jump last night at CrossFit.
Have a good rest of the week.
Love you Eli.
Sheryl
